"Sashiko, a Japanese traditional stitchery, and Aizome, a Japanese indigo dye process"
Sashiko is a running stitch technique that started in Japan many years ago. Traditionally, it was used to reinforce or repair garments and so the word, literally means stabbing stitches. Aka Shimozato will be talking about how the stitchery began and how it has evolved in recent times.
Aizome is an indigo dye process that is very popular in Japan. She will be talking about the history of “Ai, Indigo”, and how sashiko stitchery with natural white cotton thread on indigo dyed cotton fabrics produce distinctive appearance.
A slide show and many examples of each will be presented.
