Kathy Mack, "Journey of a Modern Sewist"
Kathy Mack is a Bainbridge Island, Washington artisan, quilter and sewist exploring color, pattern and texture through the study of traditional patchwork shapes and techniques. Her art is characterized by vibrant colors, contrasting shapes, and bold compositions. She primarily works with solid color fabrics and incorporates texture through fiber and thread. Kathy’s work expresses love and joy, a passion that fuels her creative process and ultimately her finished works. She will speak about her sewing journey: I began my love affair with needle, thread and fabric at the age of 6 when I was lovingly taught to sew by my grandmother. At the age of 43 I rediscovered my creative fire, began sewing like a mad woman, blogging about what I made, and ultimately turned it into a business.
My ride thus far has been an adventure full of joy, crazy ideas, courage, disappointment, fortitude, struggle, doubt, trust in myself, the glorious nature of human beings, and life lessons that remind me that it always makes sense to follow our dreams no matter the outcome. Where it leads us is just too darn important to miss.
I look forward to sharing highlights of my journey as a pattern designer, online fabric shop owner, modern sewist, quilter, blogger, and fearless creative.
Coming in February, BPQ's annual Ronald McDonald House Charity night.
